Wiescamp Horses
Encores Secret's mother was a branded
Wiescamp ranch mare. She came from a line of horses that had been
selectively bred for many years by the famous breeder of Quarter and Paint
horses Hank Wiescamp in Colorado. Her sire was the great Silent String. Hank
Wiescamp was quoted as saying that Silent String was probably the greatest
horse to ever come out of his quarter horse breeding program. The problem
was that Silent String had too much white to be registered as a quarter
horse at the time, but he was successfully registered as a paint. The
secretary of registration at the time for the AQHA even wrote a letter back
to Mr. Wiescamp saying that turning down Silent String for Quarter Horse
registration was one of the hardest things he ever had to do.
We highly
recommend the book "The Hank Wiescamp Story: The Authorized Biography of
the Legendary Colorado Horseman" by Frank Holmes for anyone
interested in the man and his famous horses. More than fifteen different horses from
Encores Secret's pedigree are pictured in the book. Many more are at least
mentioned. The most amazing pictures are the two of Silent String. Encores
Secret and Silent String are almost identical in both color and
conformation. This is evidence of the genetic strength of the Wiescamp bred
horses. Encores Secret's sire Encore also goes back to many Wiescamp bred
horses.
The two pictures on the left are Silent
String, the two on the right are Encores Secret.
